The Mental Health First Aid training teaches you how to support individuals who may be developing a mental problem, illness, or experiencing a mental health crises.

A basic understanding of mental health is fundamental to the life skills needed for today’s society. Government departments, schools, workplaces, hospitals, community organizations and families are all now actively embracing Mental Health First Aid training. MHFA is a 12 hour course, auspiced through the university of Melbourne that comes with an internationaly recognised certificate and it's own manual.

Training for Families

The Family Nurturing Centre has gained through experience an acute understanding of the needs of families and the pressures upon them. The mental health first aid training for both adults and youths is presented in this context by the practitioner, Sydel Weinstein. Sydel is experienced in parenting support and education. The scenarios given are based around situations that are relevant to the family, giving a solid practical preparation. Emphasis is on prevention, early intervention and on giving confidence in dealing with crisis. The resources and references provided are of specific relevance to families. The FNC urges all parents to train in Mental Health First Aid as well as general first aid.
